Ahead of next week's arrival of The Last Jedi, studios have been releasing their trailers for their big 2018 releases (to play ahead of the film) and the latest to get its first look is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Universal Pictures released the trailer online bright and early this morning, swiftly following its debut during the Thursday Night Football; check it out below:

I was a big fan of the first Jurassic World; it was pretty fun. However, Fallen Kingdom is on a whole other level for one reason: J.A Bayona. Every director that has ever been a part of this franchise has brought their own unique flair to the films, and Bayona is one of the most exciting directors working in the industry today. Having helmed the likes of The Impossible and A Monster Calls, this is a filmmaker that knows how to orchestrate character and story; all of his films are full of tension and emotion, so if his prior work is anything to go by... well, we are in for a treat with a Jurassic film unlike any of its predecessors.

Universal have been building up to the launch of Fallen Kingdom's first trailer all week long, releasing a couple of trailer teases but the most interesting thing they debuted was a really cool featurette for the sequel, which took us behind-the-scenes of the film. It's pretty fascinating stuff, and teases the scale and ambition Bayona and Trevorrow are going for with this one. Take a look:
The stuff we've seen for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom so far looks to maintain the heart and fun of all the previous Jurassic instalments, whilst bringing a plot to the table we perhaps haven't seen yet. It looks huge and epic and, of course, full of dinosaurs - and, yes, a returning Jeff Goldblum too! There's a lot of potential here, and this sequel promises to be an insane blockbuster. Dinosaurs, Chris Pratt, The Goldblum: what more do you want? I'm cautiously optimistic.

The film's plot will follow Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) as the pair team up to save the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar from a volcano on the island that threatens to wipe them out. In the years since the events of 2015's reboot/sequel, Claire has abandoned the corporate life to protect the dinosaurs that still exist after everything that happened. As Howard told EW: "Claire’s founded an organization, Dinosaur Protection Group, and they’re finding a way to get these dinosaurs off the island. She reaches out to Owen Grady to let him know this is happening.".

Here's the synopsis:
It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles. When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
With J.A Bayona at the helm, and starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, BD Wong, Toby Jones, and Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens on June 8th, 2018.
