Pixar has not one, but TWO, new releases coming our way this year. Their original animated musical Coco will be kicking off the Fall film season but, before that, we're getting one of the many upcoming Pixar sequels in the next few years: Cars 3. And a new trailer has raced in.

The extended sneak peek for the three-quel debuted on ESPN last night and has now found its way online. Check it out below:

The first teaser trailer we saw a couple of months ago had a very surprising, dark tone and Nolan-esque feel to it. Whilst this sneak peek isn't as dark as that, it certainly doesn't look as ridiculously goofy as Cars 2. I enjoyed the first Cars film and this feels very much in-line with that; the premise itself seems very intriguing and I think this could be the boost the franchise needs to put it back on the right track.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
With Brian Fee at the helm, and starring the voice talents of Owen WilsonJason PaceJose PremoleCars 3 will open on June 16th, 2017.
