As we've known for some time now, next year will be the final outing for Hugh Jackman as beloved X-Men alum Wolverine, in Wolverine 3. Well, now, the official title for the film has been revealed, as has a teaser poster, some new plot details and a first look image.

Jackman took to Twitter yesterday to debut a teaser poster for the film, which revealed the title to be Logan. The one-sheet features our eponymous hero's battered up hand with his iconic claws out, being held by a little child's hand. Check out Jackman's tweet, embedded below:
You can find a more hi-res version of the teaser poster at the bottom of this article. In celebration of Logan's marketing campaign kicking off, director James Mangold also tweet out a picture of page 2 of the film's screenplay, which sheds some light on what we can expect come March:
The page doesn't give away a huge amount but it certainly teases a very dark, gritty outing for Jackman's iconic hero. The R-rating is definitely teased here too, with Logan dropping a "fuck" quite casually right at the top. Mangold also teases more violence and more death and a more believable comic-book movie on that front too, "in this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car." As far as the state of our protagonist himself goes, the screenplay continues to say, "he's older now and it's clear his abilities aren't what they once were. He's fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain - hence booze as a painkiller. So, by all means, go ahead and worry about him."
We already know that Logan will be inspired loosely by the fan-favourite 'Old Man Logan' storyline from the comics and this pretty much backs it up. The Wrap have also gone and revealed that, according to their sources, the movie will take place in the not-so distant future, in the year 2024. In his older age, Logan is sick and his powers are fading, with his healing a lot slower and sometimes even not at all. He spends his free-time driving limos and, like in the Old Man Logan comics, is called back into action when circumstances require him to do so. What said circumstances are remains to be seen but it could be related to the film's antagonist, previously revealed by Bryan Singer to be the infamous Mister Sinister, and/or 'Transigen', a government body in the film that is taking mutant children and turning them into killing machines.

Logan isn't the only one suffering though, as The Wrap also reveals that Professor X is not doing too well either. His powers are also unstable and he even fails to  remember who Logan is at times. We've known for some time now that Patrick Stewart would be joining Jackman in his third solo feature and returning to play Professor X (also for his final time) but it was always unknown just to what capacity he'd be involved with Wolverine and the storyline. As these new details reveals, it seems as though Logan will in fact be taking care of Charles - alongside an Albino mutant, Caliban, who'll be played by Stephen Merchant - so he will, most likely, have a fundamental role in the film. James Mangold has debuted a first look photo of Stewart as Xavier in the forthcoming film over on his Twitter and, needless to say, he looks like a very different Professor X than we're used to seeing. Check out the image below:
Also having a key role in the film is a little girl who gets caught up in the aforementioned 'Transigen' program, that Logan takes under his wing. She's the girl that can also be seen in the teaser poster holding our titular character's hand; as previously speculated, and teased by the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits stinger, it seems as though this girl will be fan-favourite character X-23. The description The Wrap have provided is that she has two claws instead of Wolverine's three, which fans will see lines up with the description of the character herself, as well as previously rumours that she'd have a role in the picture. To those not quite clued in, X-23 is a powerful mutant clone of Wolverine's that was cloned from a damaged copy of one of his genomes. Her powers include super strength, super speed, healing capabilities and retractable adamantium claws. It'll be interesting just to see how she fits into this story.

I'm a big X-Men fan and I loved Mangold's The Wolverine in 2013. Logan is certainly shaping up to be the darkest, grittiest portrayal of this character yet and I'm very excited to see Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart go out with a bang. The film has all the right ingredients to be something truly special and unique and unlike any other X-Men movie we've seen and that has me very excited. With the marketing campaign now in full swing and racing ahead, I wouldn't be surprised if we start to find out a lot more about Logan in the coming weeks. I even feel that a teaser trailer is probably coming our way very soon too.

With James Mangold at the helm, and starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Boyd Holdbrook, and Richard Grant, Logan is set to hit cinemas on March 3rd, 2017.
