Over the years, we've seen Bryan Cranston as the one who knocks in Breaking Bad, the one who writes in Trumbo and now, he is a breaking dad, the one who questions, in the first trailers, poster and stills for his next project, Why Him?

The premise for the film, from I Love You, Man director John Hamburg, is fairly simple: Dad loves daughter; Dad meets daughter's boyfriend; Daughter's boyfriend has no filter whatsoever and seems wrong for her; Dad hates daughter's boyfriend; Dad vows to bring him down. It's one we've seen done many times before. However, with James Franco, Cranston and lots of other talented names in the mix, Why Him could be great and the first green-band and red-band trailers from 20th Century Fox certainly show lots of promise.

Firstly, here's the red-band trailer, because, let's be honest, that's the one you've come for. Be warned though, it's NSFW:

And here's the more tame, child-friendly green-band one. It's pretty similar, minus the swearing, but has a little bit of extra footage in it too:

Both Cranston and Franco are great actors and I cannot wait to see the pair work together in what looks to be a fun, hilarious little comedy - I'm not going to lie, that red-band trailer had me straight up guffawing with laughter. Whilst the plot may seem pretty paint-by-numbers, with these two leads, and a stellar supporting cast of comedians all on-board, Why Him? could execute the material well enough to make it stand out from the crowd. I loved the trailer and the dynamic so I'm certainly hopeful that this will be pretty great.

A small handful of first stills, as well as a teaser poster, for the film have also released. The images highlight the cast and the poster, as simple as it may be, is pretty good too and accompanies the trailers and the tone of the film pretty well. Franco plays these absurd characters really well and Cranston is great at playing angered characters so this could be fun.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned’s panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
With John Hamburg at the helm, and starring Bryan Cranston, James Franco, Zoey Deutch, Adam Devine, Megan Mullaly, Casey Wilson and Keegan-Michael Key, Why Him? opens in the UK on January 6th, 2016.
