For his last few pictures, director Clint Eastwood has been basing his films on real people and events - the likes of American Sniper, J. Edgar, Jersey Boys etc. Continuing that trend, his next film, Sully, will focus on Captain Sully and the "Miracle on the Hudson" and here's the first trailer and poster.

Tom Hanks stars in the lead role, as our eponymous Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger, the pilot responsible for saving the lives of 155 people after he successfully landed a plane on the Hudson River after the jet lost both engines, at a lower altitude than any jet in history. The first trailer has arrived so give it a watch below then let's talk about it:
Hanks is one of my favourite actors working; I love pretty much all of his films that I've seen. Eastwood is a very talented director too and I'm a big fan of a lot of his movies too so, naturally, seeing the pair team up has me very excited and the first Sully trailer doesn't disappoint. It's dramatic, tense and just great. Sully is an American Hero but there was a lot of controversy surrounding his decision to land on the Hudson back in 2009; it's a great story and it looks like the film could very well be pretty good too.

The first poster for the film has also released (it's embedded at the bottom of the article) and it gives us a good look at Hanks as Captain Sully and the resemblance is uncanny. I'm getting echoes of his performance as Captain Phillips, back in 2014, but that's not a bad thing. With an Awards concious release date, could we be looking at another nomination for both Hanks and Eastwood here? Just maybe.

Here's the synopsis:
From Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood (“American Sniper,” “Million Dollar Baby”) comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ drama “Sully,” starring Oscar winner Tom Hanks (“Bridge of Spies,” “Forrest Gump”) as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

“Sully” also stars Aaron Eckhart (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “The Dark Knight”) as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney (“The Savages,” “Kinsey,” Showtime’s “The Big C”) as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

Eastwood is directing the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The project is being produced by Eastwood, Frank Marshall, Allyn Stewart and Tim Moore, with Kipp Nelson and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.
With Clint Eastwood at the helm, and starring Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Sam Huntington and Anna Gunn, Sully opens in the UK on December 2nd, 2016.
