Boxing biopic Bleed For This has been quite a few years in the making, but the film, starring Miles Teller as iconic boxer Vinny Pazienza, is finally set to release this year, and the first trailer for the film has been released to get us excited for this redemption story.
I'm a huge fan of boxing films. I loved last year's Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, as well as Creed, from the start of this year. However, a boxing flick that I have been eagerly anticipating for some time now is Bleed For This, starring the uber talented and promising Teller as Vinny Pazienza, who, after winning the light middlewight title, was involved in a car accident and made reduntant from the sport, never allowed to fight again. 13 months later, he got back in the ring, against all odds. I have to say, I'm really digging this trailer. The reveal does a good job of establishing the premise but, whilst a comeback story is nothing new in this genre, wat makes Bleed For This so different and shocking and all the more profound is the fact that it's based on a true story and these events actually happened and, despite his injuries, Pazienza fought like hell to get back and fight for real in the ring. Teller got in shape for the role and he really looks a lot like Vinny himself too. With an Awards contientious release, he'll definitely be looking for some Awards recognition and, if this film is as god as this trailer promises it to be, he may just get it too come Awards season next year.
Here's the film's official synopsis:
In Bleed for This, Miles Teller stars as Pazienza in one of sport’s greatest comeback stories: the true-life tale of how the Rhode Island brawler tragically lost almost everything just as he reached the pinnacle of his profession and how he defied medical science and common sense to return to the ring and win another championship belt. Aaron Eckhart costars as renowned boxing trainer Kevin Rooney, and Katey Sagal and Ciaran Hinds play Paz’s understandably concerned parents.
With Ben Younger at the helm, and starring Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, Katey Sagal, Amanda Clayton and Ciaran Hinds, Bleed For This is set to hit the US on November 23rd, 2016, with a UK date to be announced soon. Expect it around January, when we get all the Awards films here.
