This year is a big year for returning characters and properties; we'll be seeing the return of Independence Day; the return of Jason Bourne but, also, the return of Robert Langdon in this year's Inferno - the follow-up to 2009's Angels and Demons - which has received a teaser trailer and posters.

Tom Hanks will reprise his role as symbologist Robert Langdon for this year's Inferno, the third film based on the smash-hit, bestselling series by Dan Brown - which Hanks began in 2006 with The Da Vinci Code and followed up in 2009, with Angels and Demons. Ron Howard also returns to direct the film, based on the fourth and final book in Brown's Langdon series (which began with Angels and Demons which was the second film; the order chronology has been a bit askew since day one between the films and books).

This evening, Sony Pictures debuted a short teaser for the film and it is action-packed, mysterious and just wonderful. An international trailer has been released since which also contains a few seconds of extra footage. I'm a big fan of both prior films and I'm a huge fan of this cast and this director and Inferno looks very interesting so colour me intrigued. A couple of teaser posters have also been unveiled which I've also embedded in this post.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
With Ron Howard at the helm, and starring Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Ben Foster, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Inferno hits cinemas on October 28th, 2016.
