The 2016 Summer Movie Season has officially kicked off and one of the big blockbusters that has many excited is the third instalment in the hit Star Trek franchise: Star Trek: Beyond. Well, a new trailer and poster for the film have arrived, as has a teaser for the 2017 Star Trek TV series.

The first Star Trek: Beyond trailer released at the end of last year and, whilst it was a cool trailer, it received a lot of hate because, in all honesty, it didn't look like a Star Trek film and played out more like Fast & Furious set in space - the fact that Fast and Furious franchise alum Justin Lin is directing the threequel probably didn't help matters either.

However, Paramount Pictures have debuted the second trailer (and a cool new poster, embedded at the bottom of the article) for Beyond and it makes amends to the wrongdoings of December's teaser. Check it out below:

So, as you can see from the trailer above, this actually looks more like a Star Trek film than the first trailer led on and it looks like a GREAT one at that too. The trailer captures the heart and spirirt of J.J Abrams' stellar 2009 reboot and it actually feels and looks more in line with what we'd expect from a Star Trek film.

There's still crazy action aplenty but who says we can't have a Star Trek film with the kind of epic, fun action we'd see in one of the Fast and Furious films? As this trailer proves, the idea would work. Beyond looks like it's going to be a wonderfully fun and entertaining Summer blockbuster. Also, Idris Elba's villainous Krall looks awesome and menacing!

Here's the film's official synopsis:
"Star Trek Beyond," the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious" franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In "Beyond," the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
Not only are we receiving a new Star Trek film but a TV series is also in the works - set to arrive early 2017 - and CBS have unveiled a short teaser/logo reveal for the forthcoming show. Here it is:
The series is set to air in January 2017 on CBS in the U.S (there's no word as of yet on anything regarding a U.K release) and, whilst plot details are very much under wraps, the reveal promises "new crews", "new villains", "new heroes" and "new worlds". The show is set to be its own standalone thing but the talent behind the series are all Star Trek alums so there's already plenty of reason to be excited for this. It'll be cool to have our storlyine from the films and then have our storyline from the TV series too.

Justin Lin is directing Star Trek: Beyond, which will star Chris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaSimon PeggJohn ChoKarl UrbanIdris Elba and Sofia Boutella, and is set to land in cinemas on July 22nd, 2016.

Meanwhile, Bryan Fuller is bringing us the 2017 Star Trek TV Series, with Alex Kurtzman (who co-wrote the 2009 film) and Eugen Roddenberry (son of original Star Trek creator) as executive producers and Star Trek II and VI director Nicholas Meyer writing. No cast has been revealed yet.
