In just under a couple of weeks time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to launch Phase 3 with the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War and, whilst the film is receiving lots of positive early buzz, the studio have already begun focusing on their next project, Doctor Strange, for which a teaser trailer and poster have been released.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star as our eponymous Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who, whilst trying to heal himself after a car accident, stumbles into the world of magic. The character is one of Marvel's more lesser known, stranger (excuse the pun) characters but, as we've seen before, with the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, the studio have a good track record when it comes to finding critical and commercial success with some of their more unknown properties.

During a special Civil War week on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Cumberbatch was on hand to debut our first look at the forthcoming film in the form of a teaser trailer. The trailer doesn't give too much away but it introduces us to our protagonist and the world of magic - there's some great visuals and action sequences on offer here and I love the darker, more mystical tone to the project. However, it's a very ambiguous trailer and, whilst it does show promise, for people who know nothing about the character, it begs more questions that it answers. Nonetheless, it's an interesting teaser and it certainly has me intrigued for this film. Accompanying the reveal, a poster has also been released which shows our hero in his Sanctum Sanctorum, a focal point for supernatural energies - which we see in the tag, after the title treatment, in the trailer too.

Here's the film's synopsis:
“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. “Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favourites.
With Scott Derrickson at the helm, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg and Tilda Swinton, Doctor Strange opens in the U.K on October 28th, 2016, before hitting the U.S on November 4th.
