Last month, DC gave us Batman v Superman and this week, Marvel are set to release their hugely-anticipated Civil War (expect my review in the coming couple of days). On the other end of the Marvel spectrum, the final trailer for Fox's forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse has arrived.

The X-Men prequel trilogy has been incredible thus far - 2014's Days of Future Past is not only one of my favourite X-Men movies but it's one of my all-time favourite superhero movies too - and Apocalypse is looking to be the biggest and best yet. Finally set to conclude the trilogy of films starring the younger versions of our iconic mutants and up, this blockbuster will be upping the stakes and the ante from its predecessors. And, with franchise alum Bryan Singer returning to the helm, directing a star-studded ensemble, this is shaping up to be a truly incredible, special blockbuster.

This afternoon, 20th Century Fox have debuted the final trailer for the forthcoming film and it is epic, in every sense of the word. The reveal is pakced with loads of new footage and the scale of Apocalypse looks HUGE, as the iconic mutants go up against their toughest foe yet. There's action and destruction and chaos aplenty as the mutants take on a literal god. I cannot wait to see this film; it looks insane: there's no way all the X-Men are walking away from this. Also, don't blink and you'll miss it, but there's a certain familiar face making a return at the very end of the trailer.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
With Bryan Singer at the helm, newcomers Tye SheridanAlexandra ShippKodi-Smit McPheeSophie Turner and Oscar Isaac will be joining returning actors Evan PetersJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to open on May 18th, 2016.
