Just last week, Marvel debuted the brand-new trailer for Captain America: Civil War and whilst the Spidey reveal may have been dominating the superhero conversation since, Fox are here to change the topic and turn all eyes on X-Men: Apocalypse, for which they have released an epic new trailer.

The X-Men prequel trilogy has been incredible thus far - 2014's Days of Future Past is not only one of my favourite X-Men movies but it's one of my all-time favourite superhero movies too - and Apocalypse is looking to be the biggest and best yet. Finally set to conclude the trilogy of films starring the younger versions of our iconic mutants and up, this blockbuster will be upping the stakes and the ante from its predecessors. And, with franchise alum Bryan Singer returning to the helm, directing a star-studded ensemble, this is shaping up to be a truly incredible, special blockbuster.

This afternoon, 20th Century Fox have released the brand-new trailer for their forthcoming three-quell (in the prequel trilogy, anyway) and it is truly phenomenal. The reveal gives us more details on the premise of the film and shows us tons of new footage, featuring destruction and chaos and action in abundance! The film isn't just titled Apocalypse for no reason, as our mutants look as though they'll be facing their most formidable foe yet. The trailer is breathtaking, epic and the scale of this project looks HUGE. May can't come soon enough.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
With Bryan Singer at the helm, newcomers Tye SheridanAlexandra ShippKodi-Smit McPheeSophie Turner and Oscar Isaac will be joining returning actors Evan Peters James McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to release in cinemas on May 19th, 2016.
