Last night was Super Bowl Sunday and whilst it probably seemed like the apocalypse for the Panthers, after losing to the Broncos, there seemed to be much bigger stakes for the X-Men, as they face their toughest foe yet in the brand-new TV spot trailer for the forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

Following on from the teaser trailer we got at the end of last year, 20th Century Fox debuted a new look at Bryan Singer's forthcoming conclusion to the X-Men Prequel trilogy during the 50th Super Bowl last night. The reveal is packed with new footage and shows some dark times for our X-Men as the go up against the epoynmous villain and his four horsemen.

We get a much better, however still brief, look at Oscar Isaac's antagonist Apocalypse in the spot, as well as some of our newer young cast in action too, such as Olivia Munn's Psylocke or Ben Hardy's Angel. There seems to be lots of mutant mayhem on offer here and things don't look to bright for our titular team of heroes. You can guarantee that not everyone will come out alive and, from what we see, things don't look too great for Mystique.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
With Bryan Singer at the helm, newcomers Tye SheridanAlexandra ShippKodi-Smit McPheeSophie Turner and Oscar Isaac will joining returning actors Evan Peters James McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to release in cinemas on May 27th, 2016.
