In recent years, Disney have found a fair bit of success in taking some of their iconic stories and giving them live-action adaptions - from Alice in Wonderland to Maleficent and Cinderella. This year alone, the studio are set to release Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book. We're also set to see a live-action Pete's Dragon film and the teaser trailer and poster for it have released.

Whilst the 1977 animated Pete's Dragon was by no means a bad film, it's certainly one of Disney's old films that could certainly do with a modern, live-action retelling. The film follows a boy, our eponymous Pete, and his imaginary dragon, the dragon part of the film's title. I have to say, to their credit, Disney have done really well with their live-action adaptions and it'll be interesting to see just how this one fares amongst the rest - especially seeing as it will be directed by David Lowery, not exactly the first person you'd expect to see at the helm of a family-friendly, Disney fantasty film.

This morning, Disney have debuted a short teaser trailer for the forthcoming remake and it's actually pretty good. Being a teaser, the reveal is short and doesn't give much away but it establishes the premise nicely and introduces Oakes Fegley's Pete. We don't get a good, full look at the dragon but we do, however, catch a glimpse of him right at the very end of the trailer - in all his bountiful, green glory. If there's one thing to gather from this teaser, it's that this is going to be one beautiful looking adaption - there is plenty of great cinematography offered in this trailer. Accompanying the reveal, a teaser poster has been revealed and it's just as mysterious and mystical. Look closely and you'll maybe just spot a dinosaur in the background.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.
With David Lowery at the helm, and starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence, Oakes Fegley and Robert Redford, Pete's Dragon is set to hit cinemas on August 12th, 2016.
