Whilst the world may be in conflict when it comes to the Super Bowl every year, supporting their respective teams, ushering them on to win (or not win), you can be sure that one cause will unite us as a race: the return of the aliens we thought we left behind in 1996's Independence Day. And that's exactly what happens in the new Independence Day: Resurgence Super Bowl TV spot.

20th Century Fox debuted a brand new look at the forthcoming, long-awaited sequel during the Big Game last night and there is chaos in abundance. This time 2 decades ago, we received a Super Bowl spot for the original Independence Day film so it's only right that history repeats itself for the follow-up, and it did not disappoint. The reveal is insane and packed with all sorts of madness and destruction; the aliens are hungry for vengeance, it seems.

I loved the original Independence Day - it's a fun popcorn flick - and was always skeptical at the idea of a sequel. The first teaser that we saw a couple of months ago was okay and certainly piqued my interest but still didn't quite manage to win me over. However, this Super Bowl spot has possibly swayed me. The scale and ambition of this picture looks HUGE and it's a fairly exciting reveal.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996’s Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year’s top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500m internationally.
But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
With Roland Emmerich returning to the helm, and starring Jeff GoldblumMaika MonroeLiam HemsworthJudd Hirsch and Bill Pullman, Independence Day: Resurgence opens June 24th, 2016.
