A few years back, an incredible trailer came out of nowhere and premiered alongside Michael Bay's Transformers for a film that no one even knew was a thing. With mysterious footage in no context and only the words "from producer J.J Abrams" and "in theatres 1-18-08", not even a title, this surprise trailer introduced us to the surprise monster-movie Cloverfield. And now, another surprise trailer has hit the Web, for another film no one knew existed, 10 Cloverfield Lane.
When the film initially released back in 2008, it was hit with mixed reactions and reviews. Personally, I quite enjoyed Cloverfield. Director Matt Reeves and producer Abrams both talked about a sequel for some time after release but both went onto work on different things, the latter went and directed the 2009 Star Trek reboot whilst Reeves went on to film the horror film Let Me In and there hasn't been any word on the Cloverfield front since then. Well... that is until today.
Alongside screenings of Michael Bay's 13 Hours in the U.S this weekend, a mysterious trailer has been playing that has been shocking audiences and generating lots of excitement. Paramount Pictures have officially debuted the trailer online and it has taken the Internet by storm, our first look at 10 Cloverfield Lane - a movie that no one knew was coming or even expected to come; a film that was completely shot in secret. J.J Abrams returns to produce the picture and it has been revealed that, whilst this isn't a direct sequel to the 2008 flick, it is a distant relative and a related film, nonetheless.
The teaser doesn't give us much information in terms of plot details but we are introduced to main cast, seemingly trapped in a bunker of sorts. And, of course, as the title and poster would suggest, there is a monster in their midst and it's going to be a bit of a problem. Based on the fact that we have no context or idea of what's going on, the trailer feels a bit strange but it looks like an exciting film, regardless. I also love the teaser poster that had been revealed, accompanying the trailer. It's effective and simple and gets the idea across efficiently. So, there we have it. SURPRISE! J.J Abrams has surprised the world yet again with another surprise film. Kudos to you sir.
