Following up from having helmed the Harry Potter franchise from Order of the Phoenix onwards (and currently hard at work filming the spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), director David Yates will be taking a different turn for his next project, heading out into the jungle, with The Legend of Tarzan - which has just received a first trailer, poster and a couple of stills.

Based on the iconic character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Legend of Tarzan will see Alexander Skarsgård as our eponymous hero, with Margot Robbie by his side as Jane. However, trying to adding an atypical spin on his adaption, Yates' retelling of the classic story will pick up a decade after Tarzan has left the Congo, now settled in civilisation until circumstances require him to return to the jungle and connect to his inner animal. When talking about the film, Skarsgård said, "It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast. This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out."

Warner Bros. have debuted the first trailer, along with two first stills, all accompanied by the first poster, for the forthcoming film. The basic idea that we get from this is, Skarsgård's version of this character is going to be ripped. The teaser doesn't show us too much but it's promising and the openin shots of the jungle istelf are stunning to look at - as is the rest of the reveal. Christoph Waltz, Djimon Honsou and Samuel L. Jackson all co-star.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side.  Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz).  But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
With David Yates at the helm, and starring Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Chrsitoph Waltz, Djimon Honsou and Samuel L. Jackson, The Legend of Tarzan opens on July 8th, 2016.
