We've seen new trailers for Civil War and Batman v Superman in the past couple of weeks. And, now, today, the other big 2016 studio superhero epic, X-Men: Apocalypse, has received a first trailer too - accompanied by a poster.

Days of Future Past was one of my favourite films of last year, but also one of my favourite X-Men films to date too - up there alongside First Class, for me. The prequel trilogy has been incredible thus far and next year's conclusion to that saga looks to be the best yet: X-Men Apocalypse. And, with Bryan Singer returning to the helm, directing a star-studded ensemble, this is shaping up to be one of next year's biggest superhero flicks.

This afternoon, 20th Century Fox have debuted the teaser trailer - accompanied by a fiery motion poster too - for the forthcoming instalment in the X-Men franchise and it's incredible. The teaser doesn't give too much away but it sets up the premise nicely and shows us enough to get us excited. A trailer played a few months back in Hall H, during San Diego Comic-con (read my report here), and, whilst this has lots of new footage, there's some stuff that has been recycled from that reveal too. We get a look at our returning cast, whilst some of the newcomers too, as well as a nice glimpse at Oscar Isaac's titular antagonist, who looks very awesome indeed, and a bald James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier too! HOW EXCITING!!!
Here's the film's official synopsis:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
With Bryan Singer at the helm, newcomers Tye SheridanAlexandra ShippKodi-Smit McPheeSophie Turner and Oscar Isaac will joining returning actors Evan Peters James McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to release in cinemas on May 27th, 2016.
