Video games don't quite have a very good track record when it comes to getting a big screen adaption. However, next year looks to finally break that trend with some promising adaptions, such as the likes of Angry Birds, Assassin's Creed and, of course, Duncan Jones' Warcraft. Well, the first trailer and poster for the forthcoming fantasy-thriller have arrived and this looks impressive, to say the least.

I can't say I'm very familiar with the video-game World of Warcraft, off of which this film was based, having never played it. However, it certainly is a huge game with over 7 million subscribers around the world and thousands more joining every day. That's a huge fan base. So, it's no surprise that Universal are going all-out and sparing no expense for the adaptation.

This evening, the studio have debuted the first trailer for the forthcoming film and it's actually pretty cool. The reveal is PACKED with loads of footage and, one thing's for sure, this film looks absolutely incredible. The CG and visuals seem to look impressive and the scope of this project looks HUGE, with massive battles ensuing and some crazy action sequences taking place. The trailer is light on plot details but does a good job of establishing the premise and introducing our main characters too and it certainly looks like a promising video game adaptation, perhaps the one that'll finally break the curse? We'll just have to wait and see.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
With Duncan Jones at the helm, and starring Toby Kebbell, Travis Fimmel, Ruth Negga, Paula Patton, Ben Foster and Dominic Cooper, Warcraft: The Beginning will release here in the U.K on June 3rd, 2016.
