Whilst most of the hype this Christmas movie season is surrounding the forthcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this is also the season that all the Award-calibre films will be looking to make their mark and enter the Oscars race. One of these films, of course, is Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight and a brand-new trailer for the film has been released and it's pretty great.
The 8th project from the acclaimed director will follow 8 very dangerous and each skilled, in their own way, people that have to seek shelter at a cabin when a blizzard takes place. The thing is, as the travellers begin to spend more and time with one another, tension arises and things threaten to dwindle out of control. From everything we've seen from the film so far, The Hateful Eight looks set to continue Tarantino's incredible track record and it is easily shaping up to be one of my most anticipated films of the year.
This evening, The Weinstein Co. have debuted a new trailer for the project and it's stunning. It's Tarantino galore, complete with everything you'd expect from a film of his: tension, guns, blood and some dark wit. The cast is impressive and the premise is intriguing, almost like Django Unchained meets The Breakfast Club. Honestly, you'd have to be mad not to excited for The Hateful Eight. There certainly seems like the potential for lots of Oscar buzz too!
Here's the film's official synopsis:
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all.
With Quentin Tarantino at the helm, and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, Channing Tatum, Demian Bichir, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern and Walton Goggins, The Hateful Eight is set to release on January 8th.
