Just last month, at D23 2015, one of the films to take centre stage was Disney's forthcoming live-action The Jungle Book reboot. Not only was a trailer shown to the fans attending the event but a first poster was also released (check it out here) and, now, the trailer has been released online in all its glory.
For as long as I can remember I have loved The Jungle Book, the characters and the adventure aspect of it was so fun and awesome as a kid. Within the next couple of years, we're set to receive not one, but two new live-action Jungle Book films - one from Warner Bros, directed by Andy Serkis and releasing in 2017 - titled Jungle Book: Origins - and the other from Disney, directed by Jon Favreau and opening next Summer - simply titled The Jungle Book. Whilst much hasn't been heard about the former, for quite a few months now, we're beginning to hear more and more about the latter as marketing for 2016 films - including this one - begins to slowly kick off.
This evening, Disney have debuted the teaser trailer for the Favreau directed film and it's absolutely incredible. Back at D23, the project was described as being "one of the most technologically advanced films ever made" with the visuals and the CG and motion-capture being praised a lot and, well, it's clear why because this film is stunning. The jungle landscape is gorgeous; the characters look so great and it's just a breathtakingly beautiful looking trailer - it's worth taking into account that all the creatures are SFX and CG. The reveal doesn't give too much away but it sets up the premise nicely and does enough to get us excited (nostalgia ahoy with that final shot); it's also great to see that it keeps the heart and fun of the animations and, more so, Rudyard Kipling's classic novels.
Here's the film's official synopsis:
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
With Jon Favreau at the helm and starring Neel Sethi as Mowgli, with the voice talents of Bill Murray as Baloo, Sir Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johannsson as Kaa, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Lupita Nyong'o as the mother wolf Raksha and Giancarlo Esposito as alpha male wolf Akela, The Jungle Book opens on April 7th, 2016.
