During Disney's live-action presentation today, at the D23 Expo, in Anaheim, we got new details for all sorts of upcoming projects, one of which is the sequel to 2010's Alice In Wonderland film: Alice Through The Looking Glass. On top of that, a couple of first posters for the film have also been released.

Alice herself, Mia Wasikowska, surprised the D23 fans by making an appearance to talk about the forthcoming film, as well as debut a teaser trailer. Through the Looking Glass acts as both a prequel and a sequel to its predecessor as whilst the story will pick up where that one left off, Wasikowska revealed that something has happened to Alice's good friend Hatter (Johnny Depp) which leads her on a trip throughout time in which she'll come across younger versions of some of the characters, including herself, and also find out just how the Mad Hatter became... well... mad.

It was also revealed that Alice will be accompanied on her journey by, none other than, Time himself and that Sacha Baron Cohen will be the one to lend his talents to the character. In the brief footage that was shown, he has a crazy getup (per usual) complete with one hell of a huge hairdo and a great accent. Of course, as you'd expect from this film, it looks completely bonkers and chaotic and mad and fun! As well as that footage, two new posters for the sequel were also unveiled and they look pretty cool. Both captioned "It's time for a little madness", one features Alice and the other one the Hatter.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Director James Bobin brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” in which Alice (Wasikowska) returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. The film, which once again features Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall, introduces several new characters as well: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father, and Time.

Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd, and Tim Burton produce and John G. Scotti is the executive producer. The screenplay is by Linda Woolverton. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
With James Bobin taking over directing duties from Tim Burton, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Alan Rickman, Helen Bonham Carter, Timothy Spall, Rhys Ifans and Sacha Baron Cohen, Alice Through The Looking Glass is set to open on May 27th, 2016.
