During the live-action Disney presentation today, at D23 Expo, in Anaheim, one of the films to take centre stage was the forthcoming, live-action adaptation of the iconic The Jungle Book and it has received a first poster.

Whilst the majority of the attention was on Marvel and Star Wars at the event, that's not say that the other films were kept in the dark and one of the ones that took the audience by storm was Jon Favreau's upcoming The Jungle Book. Disney's President of production Sean Bailey described the reboot as "one of the most technologically advanced films ever made", using a blend of CG and motion capture to bring the characters to life for the big screen. Favreau's aim was to make a film that combined Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel with the classic Disney animations using modern technology, to add a new twist on an old tale.

Not only did the director unveil a gorgeous first poster for the film (see below), featuring Sir Ben Kingsley's Bagheera and newcomer Neel Sethi's Mowgli (both who were on-stage at the panel) in the striking jungle - with Scarlett Johannsson's python Kaa seen as well - but some first, D23 exclusive footage was also shown and it below the roof of the place, receiving a standing ovation. The biggest highlight of the footage was the astounding photorealistic CG. "The best CGI, in my estimation, is the CGI that disappears," said Favreau.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
With Jon Favreau at the helm and starring Neel Sethi as Mowgli, and the voice talents of Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johannsson as Kaa, Christopher Walken as King Louie and Lupita Nyong'o as the mother wolf Raksha and Giancarlo Esposito as alpha male wolf Akela, The Jungle Book opens on April 7th, 2016.
