Comic-con 2015 has officially gotten underway in San Diego. One of the biggest panels kicking off the event, in Hall H, on Thursday, was the Lionsgate panel, where the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 took the stage to debut the first, full-length trailer for the film.

The panel began with some drummers up on stage and streaming through the crowd. We were then shown the "Stand With Us" teaser video (see that here) before the cast and crew of the film came to talk about the epic finale and, of course, debut the first trailer. Joining director Francis Lawrence and producer Nina Jacobson at the event was Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Willow Shields.

When talking about the film and the franchise, Jennifer said, "The power of our future is in our hands, it’s about hope and empowerment and being involved. At the beginning of this movie, this was one girl who was standing up to something huge and gigantic. What I like about these movies is that they take the entire world and condense it into this continent, and she took this world into her hands, and even though she knew she could die. I’m not saying you should risk your life… pump, pump, pump your brakes... just the power is with you and in your hands."
What really made the panel so great was the first, full-length trailer for Mockingjay Part 2 that was exclusively shown to the audience at the panel and the reaction it received. Crazy doesn't even come close to describing the state of Hall H when the reveal was shown. It was madness but it was great. Now, when the trailer will be made available for the public is anyone's guess but we were told that it, unfortunately, won't be online for a few months yet. However, you can find my full breakdown of the reveal below.

Here's what we saw:

Opening with shots of The Capitol in smoke and ruins, the trailer is quick to establish a dark tone. We then get a look Jennifer Lawrence as Donald Sutherland‘s President Snow voiceover about how he is watching Katniss and she's watching him, “My dear Miss Everdeen, make no mistake for the game is coming to an end." The Lionsgate logo appears. We're then back in District 13 as the rebel troops are rallied together and preparing to attack The Capitol. Commander Paylor (Patina Miller) comes on-screen, giving a speech to the troops as Katniss prepares to lead them into their assault, talking about their attack. We then get a few shots of Snow before Finnick comes on, looking tense, and we get his line from the teaser trailer: “Welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.” And, indeed, that's exactly what this is.
Cue a slew of action sequences and a dramatic change of music; The Capitol in peril, sweeping shots of dust and ruin, there's some explosions too. We then have Katniss shooting an arrow down the street and it bursting into flames. Next, in a shot similar to the one from the teaser, she walks down the street where she got her nicnkame 'The Girl on Fire', where the tribute parade took place in the first film. She's leading an army of troops, looking fierce and badass doing so. This is a girl on a mission. In comes Gale, looking ready for war. “We’ve got one shot. Let’s make it count,” he says.
We get some more quick shots of the war and some other action going down, as the fight hits the Capitol. There's blood, gunfire and big set pieces galore. The rebels attack. Buildings fall. The war rages on and the visuals look great as all the action commences. There’s a quick shot of Prim (Willow Shields), with Katniss talking about the hell Snow has caused and about he has to pay for everything he has done. Peeta then makes an appearance, normal and no longer hijacked. He talks about the chaos and deaths Snow has caused and how only the Mockingjay can bring an end it and bring meaning to all of the people that have died for the cause of justice. Powerful stuff.
Cut to Cressida (Natalie Dormer), who sets off a trap - from a shot we saw in the teaser. Whatever Cressing unleashed floods the city and we see people fleeing and screaming and panicking. There's some action and explosions and more chaos interspersed in-between these last few sequences before we switch over to Katniss once again, decked out in her Mockingjay gear and looking pissed off and ready for some blood. Her quote is chilling but it's powerful... “Tonight, turn your weapons to The Capitol. Turn your weapons to Snow.” Cue the Mockingjay Part 2 logo and Rue's iconic whistle. The crowd goes wild.

It was a pretty great trailer. I'm a huge fan of The Hunger Games franchise and, from what we saw, Mockingjay Part 2 looks like a great conclusion to the series but it looks like it respects and honours Suzanne Collins' novel too. The finale looks action-packed, emotionally charged and just much bigger in scope than any of the previous instalments. It's safe to say that I'm more excited than ever before now to see this film.

Francis Lawrence returns to the helm for what is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year. Jennifer LawrenceLiam HemsworthJosh HutchersonDonald SutherlandNatalie Dormer and Julianne Moore are amongst the many actors set to star in the film. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 opens on November 20th, 2015.
