Up until now, we've just seen very brief, little promos for the show - which never revealed much, if anything - but, today, during AMC's annual Walking Dead panel, the first, full-length trailer for the series arrived and, now, it has found its way online. The reveal is three minutes long and packed with lots of awesome footage. It's evident that this is definitely going to be a lot more different than The Walking Dead, with very few similarities.
Attending the panel to talk about the show and debut the trailer were executive producer and pilot director Greg Nicotero, showrunner Dave Erickson, producer David Alpert and executive producer Gale Anne Hurt. They were joined by cast members Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Mercedes Mason, Alycia Debnam-Carie, Lorenzo James Henrie and Ruben Blades.
As we can see in the trailer, Fear The Walking Dead will focus on the beginning of the apocalypse. Where The Walking Dead begins four or five weeks into things, when Rick Grimes wakes up from his coma, this will see the start of the event and focus on the early chaos and understanding of what's going on. "At first glance, they don't know what this is. They don't assume that the people are the undead, they just think they're sick," Erickson said at the panel, about the situation in the show.
It's definitely an intriguing idea and one that I'm interested in seeing how the show deals with. From the trailer, we got to see a lot of typical, normal, family drama which is something absent from the original show. The start of the reveal just shows this off as a standard drama show and that was nice to see. Of course, about a minute in, things change and these oblivious characters have no idea what's coming. The trailer is tense, action-packed and everything you want to see from this series... whilst being different from The Walking Dead too. It sets the stage nicely for what's to come.
Fear The Walking Dead will premiere, over in the U.S, on August 23rd, 2015. There's no word just yet on a UK release, as the show is yet to find a distributor here.
