Last year, we saw Interstellar. The year before that, we got Gravity. Well, this year's big sci-fi, space extravaganza comes in the form of Ridley Scott's The Martian and, today, a first trailer and poster have arrived.

Wow, who would have ever thought that Ridley Scott would direct a sci-fi, set in space.... In all honesty and respect, the man knows how to direct these films and how to direct them well. At least it's something close to roots for Scott and not... well... Exodus. The man is a sci-fi aficionado and has shown, time and time again, that he can make these big, space epics work and I can't wait to see what he has in store with The Martian.

This afternoon, Fox have released the first trailer for the film. It's 3 minutes long and simply awesome. The trailer sets up the tone and premise of the film brilliantly and gives us just enough to get excited about. The shots of space are gorgeous and the film itself looks like it could be pretty great. Matt Damon leads a stellar, out of this world cast too so that's another plus.

Accompanying the reveal, a first poster for The Martian has also been unveiled. Captioned "Bring Him Home", the one-sheet puts the focus on Damon's astronaut Mark, who gets stranded on Mars. It looks cool. However, doesn't his suit look a little too similar to the one he wore in Interstellar?

Here's the film's official synopsis:
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.
With Ridley Scott at the helm, and starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña and Donald Glover, The Martian opens on November 25th, 2015.
