The whole idea of friendship and fame is at the heart of Jon M. Chu's film adaption of Jem and The Holograms. Yes, that's right. The 80s show is coming back and it has received a first trailer, poster and whole slew of stills.

Back in the 1980's, there was a popular cartoon show by the name of Jem and The Holograms. Well, this year, it's making a return - as a live-action film. GI. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu is on directing duties and, when talking to USA Today about the film, described the film as "It's actually about a group of young people who are going to be inundated with this idea of fame and fortune and products and stuff, and within all that, how do you stay true to who you really are? That's the real soul of the movie."

Universal have, today, dropped the first trailer for the film and it's nothing special but, in my opinion, the film doesn't actually look too bad. It's definitely following in the footsteps of Pitch Perfect - another similar film, also from Universal. It's colourful, vibrant and there's lots of fun going down. Let's not forget all the glitter. I'm just hoping that this is able to retain all the magic and energy that made the original show so great.

Accompanying the trailer, Universal have also unveiled an abstract first poster and whole handful of stills for Jem And The Holograms too. The one-sheet puts the spotlight on our titular girl, Aubrey Peebles, with the caption "every generation needs a voice." The stills look cool and I'm loving all the unique, exuberant looks of the girls - especially Stefanie Scott, who I'm a huge fan of.

The film will follow talented, small-town girl Jerrica who is suddenly launched into the world of fame and fortune, as an overnight sensation following a video of her performing having gone viral. As she and her three sisters begin a once in a lifetime, one in a million lifestyle, they discover that some talents - like their musical ones - just shouldn't be kept hidden. Taking on unique personas, the film follow these four girls as they realise that the key to success is finding your own voice.

With Jon M. Chu at the helm, and starring Aubrey Peebles as Jerrica - who takes on the identity of "Jem" - and Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko and Aurora Perrineau as Kimber, Aja and Shana, Jem and The Holograms will open in the U.S on October 23rd, 2015, before hitting here, in the U.K, on December 21st, 2015.

I think it's Aubrey Peebles, you put Audrey (common mistake to be made though). Love the article! :)

  2. Ah, yes. Thanks for that, I've made the changes. I had just got done chatting to a friend about Audrey Plaza in "Life After Beth" so was in the mindset of writing Audrey - not checking and realising it's actually Aubrey!
