Whilst this year is set to be huge for films, next year is only looking to be even bigger and better. One release that I certainly am looking forward to is the David Ayer helmed Suicide Squad. Well, the director has gone and tweeted out a photo of the cast at the table read and it's exciting.
As I mentioned above, one of my most anticipated films of 2016 is DC's Suicide Squad. The primary reason for that, though, is just because of how impressive the cast is and with filming set to begin very soon, the Fury director has taken to Twitter to tweet a shot of the cast all together - at a table read - and it just shows the sheer mass of talent that will be headlining the blockbuster. We have Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne and more. They're all there.
One notable absence from the picture, however, is Jared Leto. Now, there could be a whole handful of reasons for that but I think it's because Warner Bros. want to hold off showing him just yet as he has already begun the transformation process for his part. As I'm sure you're all aware, Leto will be portraying The Joker, one of the most iconic comic-book characters ever, so I can bet that Ayer is wanting to save that HUGE reveal for a later date, as he's quite fond (just like fellow DC-director Zack Snyder) of his teasing.
Another notable surprise here is the addition of some new cast members, the likes of Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz and Jim Parrack. However, what's interesting is that the actors haven't even been rumoured, let alone mentioned officially, for Suicide Squad until now. The big question now, of course, is who are they all going to be playing in the film? Well, El-Mayimbe - of Latino-Review - is reporting that Barinholtz will be playing the disturbed psychologist and iconic Batman foe Dr. Hugo Strange with Beach on the role of Ravan, deadly assassin and another member of the titular team.
Now, all that leaves us with is who is Parrack portraying? Well, Mayimbe is claiming that the Battle Los Angeles star will be playing the iconic Deathstroke. But, wait you say; wasn't Joe Manganiello set to play him? As it turns out, Manganiello has dropped out for whatever reason so the studio decided to persevere for Parrack as they wanted a bit of a younger actor for the role too. Basically, Deathstroke is an assassin that was gentically engineered to surpass all human limits.
With Fury's David Ayer at the helm and starring Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Jared Leto (The Joker) and Cara Delevinge (Enchantress), Suicide Squad will open on August 4th, 2016. With a great team behind it, this is certainly shaping up to be a pretty damn good film. I'm excited.
