In the good spirit of yesterday being April's fools, Ryan Reynolds took it as an opportunity to embrace the comical persona of the merc with a mouth and officially revealed that next year's Deadpool will be rated R. However, he did so in an ingenious and brilliant way.

Over the past decade or so, we've seen many superheroes take to the big screen - some known more than others- and it's safe to say that most of these films prove a huge success with fans and with box-office figures. Even risks like this year's Guardians of the Galaxy - who no one had heard of prior to the films release - manage to smash charts.

Deadpool is, arguably, one of the most known, most loved heroes of all time and his feature length solo outing has been WAY overdue. So, of course, when 20th Century Fox finally gave the project the greenlight last year, fans were overjoyed. It was due to their love and response to the test footage and character that made it so and the other day, we got our first look at Reynolds in costume as well as the official logo and synopsis.

Of course, though, you can't have a Deadpool film without all the blood, gore and language that comes with the character. Ryan Reynolds, who'll play the mercenary, is very passionate about the character and the fans and delivering them the film that they deserve so has been fighting for the R rating the movie requires. Word out got out that Fox had given it a PG-13 certificate - despite how it's still filming - but most dismissed it so it was a surprise when Reynolds took to Twitter to reveal that the news was true.
However, of course it was all a gag. When JoBlo got an exclusive interview with the actor to discuss it, everything seemed as though the film would actually be PG-13 but, towards the end, it becomes evident that Deadpool will, in fact, be rated R and that the whole PG-13 nonsense was all for April's Fools. Of course it was. Of course Deadpool is going to be R. Fans can now rejoice and celebrate. Kudos to the way Reynolds and the team delivered the news though. It was awesome, hilarious and in true spirit of Deadpool's character. Watch the video (embedded at the bottom of this post) and all will be revealed. "Fuck you Slater."
Here's the film's official synopsis:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
With Tim Miller at the helm, and starring Ryan Reynolds as our foul-mouthed protagonist and titular badass, Deadpool is set to release in cinemas in just under a year, on February 12th, 2016.
