After having leaked online (well, not technically leaked but distributed in Asia early) a month back, the first, full, official trailer for Kyle Newman's Barely Lethal has landed and it looks like one atypical, fun espionage/thriller/teen flick.
I have to say, I probably would have been a stranger to this film, weren't it for Dove Cameron. She's one of my favourite actresses and when I found out she was set to star in this, I was hooked because, of course, I'll see anything she stars in. Honestly, I'm glad I found out about this film though.
Following Hailee Steinfeld as Megan Walsh, a 16-year-old international assassin, Barely Lethal sees her try to live a 'normal' teen life by faking her own death and enrolling in high school. However, she soon realises that being popular can be painful and can have its consequences and is soon back in action, with the life she left before.
Here's the film's official synopsis:
Megan Walsh (Hailee Steinfeld) is a teenage special ops agent who yearns for a normal adolescence. After faking her own death she assumes the role of an exchange student and quickly learns that surviving the treacherous waters of a typical American high school can be even more difficult than international espionage. Also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Alba, Sophie Turner, Dove Cameron, and Thomas Mann.
We saw a poster late last year and, now, the film has received its first, full, official trailer and it's pretty cool. There's guns, explosions and just high flying fun! I admit, I always thought the film was going to be a bit of a chick flick but it seems that isn't the case. The plot does sound like one that will be enjoyed by all and, with some great-looking action, this looks like it will be enjoyed by all too; Mean Girls meets Spy Kids, anyone?
Directed by Kyle Newman and starring Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Turner, Rachel Harris, Jaime King and more, Barely Lethal is set to release on DirecTV on April 30th, before hitting select theaters and VOD on May 29th - over in the U.S. As far as the UK goes, no release plans have emerged so don't expect it anytime soon.
