Being the disney aficionado teen that I am, I fall right into the demographic for their latest film; Disney Descendants. Well, it has received a first trailer. Hold onto something, things are about to get a little mystical and a little magical.

If there's one thing Disney Channel has a reputation in, it's their Disney Channel Original Movies. What reputation that is exactly, well that's a whole other topic. Personally, I don't actually mind them too much. Outgoing, bursting, annoying films like High School Musical - the ones that spawn the biggest audiences and franchises - aren't my cup of tea and I find them painfully tedious but the more grounded, subtle things like Cloud 9 or Radio Rebel; I quite enjoy.

Of course, in true Disney spirit, the studio always aim for, typically, at least one big, unique DCOM ever year and 2015's one looks like their most audacious, dare I say fun one yet: Disney's Descendants. We're all familiar with the likes of Disney villain giants Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella De Vil and The Evil Queen. Well, Descendants will put the spotlight on their children.

So, yes. Dove CameronBooboo StewartCameron Boyce and Sofia Carson star as Mal, Jay, Carlos and Evie respectively - the children of the aforementioned big bads - who are sent to prep school, in a bid to better themselves and embrace their inner princes and princesses.... Something like that anyway. Oh, there's also some other fairytale characters (and their offspring) thrown into there for good measure.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Disney’s Descendants takes place in a present-day idyllic kingdom, where the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making spawn of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power, or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?
I'll be honest, the trailer looks pretty cheesy but, having grown up with these films, I've come to terms with it and, as far as DCOMs go, it looks pretty great. I'm loving the energy; it looks like we may have a fun little film on our hands. Things get a little mystical and even a bit magical. I'm excited to see how it plays out, especially since we have a pretty decent premise and cast in play here - I'm the biggest fan of Dove's, from the group. Let's just hope Descendants is not as cringe-worthy and embarrassing as Teen Beach Movie. Thankfully, it doesn't look like that's the case.

With High School Musical director Kenny Ortega at the helm and starring Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Maz Jobrani, Kathy Najimy and Kristin ChenowethDisney Descendants will air on Disney Channel this Summer.
