For those of you that don't know, I'm a huge fan of John Green's and I adore his novels. However, I feel as though, Paper Towns just has to be his best one; witty, dark and mysterious. If you've been a regular to the site for some time then you may recall that this time last year, I posted my articles on books that should become movies. Well, Paper Towns was at the top of my list. It's a fabulous book, maybe even one of my all-time favourites and it seems as though they've captured it well.
This afternoon, the film's first trailer has arrived online and it is fantastic. We got our first look at the one-sheet last week and, now, the proper reveal itself is here! It will make you cry, it will make you laugh and it will make you smile. Everyone gets a miracle. It features the always awesome Nat Wolff and the drop dead gorgeous Cara Delevingne, as our protagonists Quentin and Margo, and it sets the stage nicely for what's to come. I think, the best thing about the reveal is just how accurate it looks to the book (kind of like The Fault in Our Stars). I LOVE the casting of Quentin and Margo. I think Nat and Cara are the perfect actors to play them.
I'm definitely excited for this one! It's hard not to fanboy, even a little. Paper Towns was such a a thrilling, nuanced read and, from the trailer, it seems like they've managed to do a good job of bringing the story to life. It's a book-to-film YA masterpiece, from what we can see anyway. These novels have taught me a lot and have inspired me a lot and I cannot stress enough how passionate I am about Paper Towns and about seeing it done right. I have high expectations but I think that Schreir is the perfect man for the job and I trust that he'll do a good job. Now, if you excuse me, I need to see that trailer again (and again and again etc).
Here's the film's official synopsis:
Adapted from the bestselling novel by author John Green ("The Fault in Our Stars"), PAPER TOWNS is a coming-of-age story centring on Quentin and his enigmatic neighbour Margo, who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears--leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. The search leads Quentin and his quick-witted friends on an exhilarating adventure that is equal parts hilarious and moving. Ultimately, to track down Margo, Quentin must find a deeper understanding of true friendship--and true love.
With Robot and Frank director Jake Schreir at the helm and starring Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne, Cara Buono, Halston Stage and more, Paper Towns will open in the U.S on 24th July, 2015, but will reach us, here in the UK, a month earlier, on 19th June, 2015.
